March Recap

oops….late again

Wooooo March was super busy!!! Here are some highlights:

Glass

I took a 4 week glass flameworking course at ARC and Flame this month which kicked my butt. The class met on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6-9 pm, which I guess is not a typical open time slot for most people, as I was the only one enrolled in this course. Luckily I had an amazing teacher (renowned glass artist Eunsuh Choi) who was willing to work with me 1 on 1. Choi is known for her lattice glass sculptures – which I found inspiring on day 1 and then frightened me as I learned more about the technical skills required to make them.

One on one instruction is certainly very humbling, especially when you are learning from someone with such skill, but I was able to learn a ton in a short time. I am still mentally processing about 70% of the course, but here are some of my creations from along the way.

Events! :0

This month we had the “throw your old clothes in a giant pile” event! Here is our pile.

AhhhHHhh yes. Lots of good junk. Also, some cool people (thank u vera and ruby) showed of some mega art skills! Take a peek….

also some glass.

I am unsure if I should keep trying to host events on a monthly basis, I have not really gotten a response to them. We shall see.

Other things from march!

I kidnapped my friends Tim and Arwyn and forced them to come with me across the canadian border! Here is us at Ikea. Also they had never been to a bass pro shop, so of course we had to make a stop.

Back on the state side (sigh), I finally figured out the answer to one of my largest questions yet….Let me set the scene. For some reason, the house we rent came with 3 garbage bins and 1 recycling bin. 3 Bins is a lot for 3 people, so we really only use one bin. Somehow, whenever I look outside, the 3rd bin in line always is open. At first, I guessed that the wind was blowing it open, but my sharp thinking girlfriend pointed out that if that was the case, all of the bins would be open. This seriously had my mind spinning in circles for weeks on end, unit one day I caught the culprit in the act.

Now I know what you’re thinking. OBVIOUSLY ITS A STINKIN RODENT! HEAR ME OUT!!!! This trash can is open – even when its empty! Even when the other trash cans are full! And the lids are heavy!! All of our other trash cans have holes in them that some creatures of the night chewed. So the obvious question is….how could this little guy open such a big trash can!! I will tell you, but you wont believe me. I saw it with my own EYES!!! ok? so basically the squirrel stands on top of the closed lid with its grippers on the front lip of the lid. Then, he waits for a big gust of wind and throws all of his weight backwards into the air. The wind catches the front of the lid and flings it open. Free meal at last.

ok. This is starting to get weird, and I know what you’re thinking. Is this stupid squirrel story why my newsletter is late? No, my dear reader. It is because I was busy perfecting Z.A.S.R.O.M.

That’s right folks. On top of all of my other numerous accomplishments this month, I have invented the greatest sandwich this world has ever seen and I will share it with you here.

Z.A.S.O.M – Version 1.0 release date 4/9/2025

Raw materials – sourced almost entirely from Trader Joes.

  1. toast two slices of sourdough bread and gently place them on a plate.
  2. Apply Hummus (roasted garlic in my case) and Fig jam liberally onto each side.
  3. Install baby arugula and 2 slices of smoked turkey breast as shown below.
  4. Upon the bed of arugula, place 4 slices of black pepper salami.
  5. Place sundried tomatoes and swiss cheese according to your geographic location.
  6. Unless you are crazy like my mother, add a dollop of avocado.
  7. Assemble your two halves, then cut precisely in the center to form two equal halves.
  8. Just a little personal touch. I like to eat this sammy with two perfectly ripe tomatoes, a glass of ice water and a positive outlook on life.
